This show truly deserves all the praise. My older brother used to watch it back in its time, and I couldn’t understand how a 30-ish year old could watch cartoons like that.

15 years passed and someone recommends it. One day, while recovering from some cold in bed, I put Avatar out of boredom, some days after that recommendation. Damn. First couple of chapters are not very strong, but enough to keep digging. As these are short episodes, it really doesn’t matter. But the ending of the first season? That is art.

The Wire is one of those shows that portray the detective work with different approaches. They also show brilliant criminal minds, leadership and organization. There are bits of heroism in some rogue characters, too. The political and juducial aspects of organized crime are unashamedly put in front of you. Acting and writing are top-notch. It’s just a must watch if you like TV shows.

BTW, great picks Severance and The Expanse, however, the latter had so many problems to find enough financial support that ends up showing on the screen. Being said that, the show is awesome in a Battlestar Galactica way to make things happen no matter the circumstance.

Mexican here. Can confirm that we have plenty of stray dogs and cats here to eat. We have plenty of pet dogs and cats to eat too, but it’s troublesome to deal with their owners/masters. Some people don’t use smartphones. An article in prioridata states that, in this year, 974.6 millions of Chinese people use smartphones. They are still a lot of Apple users, but less than 200 million, still probably similar to their USA customer base to put it in perspective.

I can’t make the radio stations play in New Vegas, under Proton. And I’m a sucker for Fallout playlists, just can’t play without Radio New Vegas. It was a known bug but nobody has a fix.

I concur with those Beach House suggestions and add maybe EMA, Slowdive and possibly Cocteau Twins and Piano Magic. Maybe even the work of Brian Eno in Another Green World?

Oh, and by the way, “shoegaze” is nothing more than a journalistic name to group all bands in the popular musical scene that made a heavy use of pedals to distort or generally modify their guitar sound. They spent so much time watching at their pedals in contrast of earlier guitar players, that they looked like they were gazing at their shoes.

I have an obsession with light. Love the golden and blue hours and I don’t want to know why, it’s just so beautiful to watch. Being like this I’m pretty conscious of lighting and, in general, it has become just wonderful to have that precise dim and warmth in every space for a reasonable price. Not only this, less-intrusive lighting had become something urban ecologists quietly succeeded on spreading all over the world (bat-friendly lighting, for example) thanks to the available technologies.

So, yeah… not mundane at all.

Someone replied to you with the expected use is the downvote button, but contrary to your comment, I believe there is a de facto use of the button and it more or less corresponds to your “I don’t like this” interpretation.

Now, they could have done something to address this issue, even completely eliminate the downvote button. I don’t think they will do it any time soon because it would affect their profit.

One of my several Reddit accounts followed that principle: only upvotes allowed, no downvotes. Then, when I said that in a comment someone discussed with me how stupid they thought that practice was. They believe it was completely undesirable for Reddit, citing what happened in YouTube after they removed the downvote option. I didn’t care to understand, but that experience allowed me to develop a perennial restraint for hitting the downvote button. I use it scarcely against what I’m convinced are trolls.

Isolated communities sharing rigid points of view are a problem, but I think the voting system is to blame. When someone disagrees and downvotes as a consequence, it changes the way that comment is read by the next reader, this will likely generate inertia over the way the message is read in general through time.

I can’t explain why I do like to read other people’s comments. Most of the time I do not bother to engage in conversations with strangers, but Lemmy has several advantages over Reddit just because it doesn’t count or publish people’s “karma”. It’s a blessing that some instances of Lemmy can also hide the voting system altogether, which is the only way I can beat the anxiety of putting my thoughts out there. I think these elements make Reddit more addictive, because a “good” number in your comments and profile confirms your membership to a given community. I believe it also shapes a “correct” way of thinking.

Is there a reasonable explanation for this or is it plain greed? In my book, technology gets always cheaper, but scalability is also always a concern.

That, if true, doesn’t invalidate that the guy is rich, immature, and makes a living from attracting people to pay him attention so he gets paid even more money. I said it because that’s what he is.
