Phones routinely look for specific SSIDs by their names. Imagine you’re strolling through a mall while your appearance changes every 2 seconds, but you keep yelling out the names of 5 other peoole. People will not know who you are really, but they will be able to follow you around because they will know that it’s you who yells those 5 names no matter what you look like.

I got one of those. Thing’s been a pain. Last time I let it run, it drove into the kitchen, did a small donut over a tiny spot immediately in front of the door, drove back out into the hallway, proudly announced that it had completed cleaning, started towards its charging station, made 2 attempts to park, missed both times, announced that its path was blocked, and just stopped. I absolutely do not trust that thing to be able to do anything unsupervised, at which point why even have a robot vacuum? I don’t use it very often anymore.

I also find ORMs and query builders much easier to debug than most mative SQL database queries. Mostly because native SQL error messages tend to be some of the most unhelpful, most undescriptive crap out there, and ORMs help a bit with that.
Seriously, fuck MySQL error messages. 9 times out of 10 shit boils down to “you got some sort of error somewhere roughly over there, go fix”.
I ran into that same DNS issue with pi-hole but in a docker container, and the (bandaid) solution was to put the container in host network mode too. But turns out it’s not an issue but a feature. By default pi-hole only responds to DNS queries from within its local network. The host machine’s LAN is an external network to the containers, unless you set the container’s network mode to host. Pi-hole does have a setting to make it respond to DNS queries from other networks as well, though. What I’m saying is, that might not have been a podman issue.
Artemis Fowl was just bad, not just a bad adaptation. It was an incoherent mess. Felt like they left way too much on the cutting room floor for the finished product to make sense.

How exactly do you imagine someone ends up dead after running a stop sign? It very often involves a violent crash that may very well kill innocent people who did nothing wrong. They unfortunately don’t take only themselves out of the gene pool.

The problem has two sides: software and hardware. You can open source the software side all you want, it’s not gonna go very far when it has to fight against the hardware instead of working with it.
ROCm is open source, but it’s AMD. Their hardware has historically not been as powerful and therefore attractive to the target audience, so it’s been going slow.
