  • You found an important bug in your short code plugin. Removing the line from .gitkeep is not actually the solution; it was a symptom of a much bigger and more dangerous problem: you are inadvertently including and parsing a file that is not intended to be a short code.

You, or a crafty hacker, might one day create a file with code in it that should not be parsed as a short code, and not realize that it’s being done. You’re lucky that you’re the one who discovered this and not somebody else.

The solution is the only parse the files that you need to parse. This means ignoring hidden files that begin with a dot. You might also think about creating a default ignore list for any other non-shortcode file that could exist.

Obligatory: this is not medical advice. This is merely my personal experiences. In fact, the only thing I will advise anyone on is that if they feel overwhelmed, they seek advice from a licensed therapist.

So I’ve had a similar problem for the past 9 years. For me, I have to come to the conclusion that I’m in a freeze-state of my dysregulated nervous system.

I’m in weekly talk therapy, and have been working on recognizing the things that have been causing me the most stress, and ways I can deal with or mitigate those things.

And that’s been all fine and good, but I still struggle with getting started on actual activity to help deal with my compounding responsibilities. It’s hard, and some days are better than others.

I used a combination of calendars and reminders to help break down and organize my tasks. I give myself grace if I can’t get them all comply when I initially wanted to finish them, and I try to do at least 2 or 3 things a day ( o matter how small).

  • I’ve noticed this too. Not only what you stated, but how the search terms aren’t always respected; ie they do similar terms, even if the term or phrase is in quotes (the quotes should mean exact matches only). They also do a lot of filtering of the results if they feel I shouldn’t be seeing them. I can take my same search query from DDG to Google and most of the time find what I’m looking for.

If I understand DDG correctly, they use Microsoft Bing as their backend for search results. So while they may be branded DDG, the results are in fact out of DDG’a control. It also means we are more subject to Microsoft’s privacy policy than we are to DDG’s.

I’ve been wanting to move away from DDG because of these reasons, but have been unable to find good alternatives. Hopefully someone here can make good suggestions.

  • Hm. Honestly, if you’re not willing to get police involved, the only real option you might have would be to confront the person you suspect. Obviously they may be a danger to others, so you may wish to do it in a very public space where you can put something physical between the two of you (eg a restaurant table).

If it were me, I would maybe take one person (at post) with me if I really felt threatened by this person. But by all means, don’t make it a huge deal or you will spook or freak out this person. Best case scenario is they flee and stop posting and then you won’t know what they’re up to. Worst case is that they flip out and decide to go in their dream rampage.

Short of that, I would also strongly recommend that you and your friends always stay in groups of at least two (maybe three if possible). Maybe pair a friendly guy with a girl (if they are comfortable with that). I suggest that because the stalker probably would be intimidated by the male presence.

All of that aside, go to the police. Even if they are incompetent, you must get this documented as soon as possible.

  • What did NPM remove? My understanding is that NPM restored the deleted package. If you’re referring to giving the author the ability to delete their packages, I’m on the fence about that. On the one hand, if it’s open source, it’s a part of the community. On the other hand, it’s also still the author’s code, and if they are the only author, then it’s their sole decision if they want to host their code under their account.

  • Get a glass. Fill it with crushed ice. Pour about an inch worth of vodka in, then about a quarter inch of lemon juice. Fill the remainder of the glass with tonic water. Repeat about 7-8 times over the course of a couple of hours.

As a bonus, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is on Netflix. Great movie. Kind of reminds me of Lethal Weapon back in the day, but still a seriously great and funny movie. Well worth a watch. Judge Reinhold is seriously underrated.

  • Up until recently, I hadn’t gone out dating in over 15 years. I feel like the thing I struggle with the most is finding people who would be interested in me in a romantic/sexual way. I’m not a social butterfly by any measure, but I am able to put myself out there. I’m also not the type of guy that exudes charisma. I also have a semi-permanent resting bitch face/scowl. And at 6’3” and 260lbs, I feel that intimidate people. If I were with a group of people that I felt comfortable with, I know things would be a lot different. I also tend to overshare. 😉
