Political jargon is confusing. But I think this case they refer to economical right-wing, who typically support deregulation of market.
I think calling “modern left” “liberal” is kind of confusing, since most modern left support social freedom and economical control, which is not really “liberal”. But that is the terms we stuck with.
Regardless, we already have electricity, self-driving vehicles that barely kills any person, it is called a tram, and it cost 7 bucks to commute. Cheaper than most car insurance.
Maybe instead of begging billionaires to come up with things that are not much worse (just slightly worse), we probably should just build more tram?
Are you using a Lemmy client or a mastodon client? I think it is better to use a client that can sort through these “Lemmy” like federations, otherwise you will get every post.
I don’t know if it is possible for Lemmy to only federate posts but not comments with other apps like mastodon.

All I did is search “gaming”, click on the community, and I got the join option like normal. Can you let me know what does it look like on your side?
I think you just search the community name, if it is on your instance it will show up as community name otherwise it will show up as <community name>@<instance name> like gaming@lemmy.ml.
But in your instance or not, it will not make a difference for your experience, all you need to do is click subscribe, and it will show up in your feed.
developers are quite expensive too.even though they don’t have many developers, it can still be a huge spending.
I currently use fedora. I am absolutely fine with Ubuntu, but the setup process is a bit too much for me, as I prefer flatpak and vanilla gnome, so it takes a bit of work for Ubuntu to get there. Also I feel like ubuntu use a different gui for different purpose, it is a bit annoying (for example, there are three app, one update apt, one flatpak, one drivers.) It is not a big deal, but a bit annoying.
Mostly all I need is just a stable os that I can work in, and I don’t really want to mess with my os. So I don’t choose more cutting-edge/interesting distros like suse, arch, or Nix.
There are also distros like pop and mint, but they don’t support gnome well, and I haven’t get into the habit of cosmos or cinnamon.

Open source license cannot really force them to release “readable” source code. No matter how strong the licenses are, compnies that are dicks will be dicks. Nothing will change as long as people keep buying their products.
I don’t think that is a good strategy to convince people to leave. Also it adds strains to the Lemmy instances.
