And it’s definitely not helping that the biggest Mastodon instance for artists is pretending to be progressive while being hostile to the LGBT community. Mastodon has a chance to snatch up artists who are pissed off about Twitter, and of course they’re going to check out mastodon.art not knowing about their bullshit.

I’m not sure what the solution to that should be, however. Take down mastodon.art? I’ve been telling people to avoid that instance, but non-techie people don’t understand that the Mastodon developers don’t own it.

Why am I not surprised? I wish we’d just pick one and stick with it.

In the US states that still do this nonsense, it’s 8 months on daylight saving time (summer time), and just four months on so-called “standard time.” We should just stay on summer time all year at this point.

Tipping culture and living wage are not the same thing at all. It’s the owner’s responsibility to pay a living wage.

Plenty of places, even in retail and food service, pay a living wage without resorting to using the registers to beg.

And this, folks, is why tipping culture continues to get worse.

Yeah, it’s happened to me a couple of times.

I worked in food service and retail for a long time, not tipped. The idea that I have to leave a tip for putting my stuff in a bag and handing it to me is ludicrous to me. Employers can pay less because they can tell new hires they get tips.

Business owners need to pay their damn employees and stop using the registers to beg customers for more money.

Just wait until you get a tip prompt on a self-checkout kiosk.

And then have the media (Wall Street Journal and Readers Digest especially) tell everybody that yes, tipping everybody everywhere is the new normal and we need to get used to it.

I’ve gotten into so many arguments on Facebook with people who tip their mechanics and doctors. People are eating this shit up.

Blows my mind how many conservatives think net neutrality is a bad thing just because the TV told them it’s bad.

None of them can even tell me what the hell net neutrality even is.

Chrome runs like garbage compared to Firefox, and this has always been the case for me. I didn’t make the switch in 2008. I also had a bad feeling that Chrome would become the new IE with every other browser ditching their own rendering engine and basing on Chromium.

People back then said it was OK because Chromium is ostensibly open-source. Look where that got us. Surprise, it’s still controlled by Google!

Elected Democrats granted exceptions to the covid restrictions of 2020 and 2021 to protests they agreed with while demanding that small businesses and parks stay closed for “social distancing.”

Elected officials printed a shit ton of money to bail corporations out for covid and then act like they have no clue why inflation is so bad.

Elected officials put thousands of my unionized brothers and sisters out of work with executive orders.

Elected officials caused domestic violence to skyrocket, mental health to decline, and now they’re talking about more lockdowns after promising that anyone getting the vaccines would not spread the virus.

Elected Democrats can’t even be bothered to codify things like abortion and gay marriage, but it’s always someone else’s fault, fodder for the next election cycle.

My point is, neither side actually gives a shit. I agree with most of what you’re saying about Republicans, but Democrats just do not give a shit either. They just play the blame game. Nothing will get done because all of these politicians are laughing their way to the bank while everybody else bickers.

First of all, not every conservative is a Trump supporter. Second, there are a number of loud liberals on TikTok who have said things like “cis people need to delete themselves.” It goes both ways.

Assuming everybody who votes differently from you or is in the opposing party is exactly the same is just as harmful as taking for granted that everything everybody on your side does or says is 100% correct. This binary view of politics has been exacerbated by social media, and it is doing a lot of harm. Both sides are basically at the point where they’re convinced that the other side wants them dead. It’s fucking crazy.

I disagree. Too many people take one side or the other, take for granted that their side is 100% correct, and refuse to believe anyone could possibly be center.
