A bit meta, but Is there a unified article anyone can point me to that discusses all the different fediverse video options (IIRC peertube is not the only one) with a overview of how their usage differs from youtube?
I’ve found peertube to be interesting ever since it was new, but have had very little luck finding anything I wanted on it when I’ve tried using it.
Guess I just need to keep using firefox. shrug
That’s actually a great example - my water bottle is so bright i looks like it should burn you if you touch it - and for exactly that reason. 😁
That was my logic too. Wait until you’ve been doing it for decades.
(In all seriousness it’s totally a personal preference, but I’m glad I stopped.)
I don’t buy personal electronics, phone cases, or other items in black if I have the option. Not quite as rigorously I’ve stopped buying black or dark clothing where possible. Decades of buying everything in black or darker shades as the default and at some point I realized it’s pretty damn bland and makes everything harder to find if lost.
I’m sure there are plenty of lovely spaces out there too ofc, it’s just finding them that’s the trick :)
Thanks for the followup - I have to agree and I suppose the takeaway is I (possibly) picked the wrong servers so far.
Maybe (though this is not the description I typically see about reddit these days) but a great many of us are here because we refuse to be there.
It’s a group chat app, not a forum. And being thrown into a group chat with 100 strangers is kind of the worst.
I do appreciate that nuance but IRC (as of last I checked - admittedly it’s been about a decade since I was habitually connected to IRC) is not really like that despite fitting essentially the same description.
Discord shines when you use it with a tight-knit group. A RL friend group, a gaming clan, etc.
That makes sense, I can see that.
I meant to link the CVE sorry. https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2011-3402
Feeds are the secret at Bluesky. Once you have a few of those you like, look at deck.blue.
I have ignored Discord for years until recently. It just seems like IRC with a lot of flashiness and emojis. Is there more to this experience? I don’t intend to be disparaging, but I looked for some specific topic servers and just found the quality of discussion to be low and the experience to be chaotic.
I’m willing to be told I’m doing it wrong though - is there a “here’s the right way to get into discord” approach I’m missing?

Not a serious rebuttal. But yes, MS has found a way for Windows to be vulnerable to attacks using fonts.
Ah, hello fellow old person. 🙂
We live in a great time for portable audio to be able to get this kind of sound and performance out of something we can carry with us everywhere we go
Not only do I agree, but my first portable music player was a knock off one of these, so it’s possible that I love the current state of things so much partly because I’ve seen how shitty it could be. 😁
Samsung phone, so not sure the money I invested in my DAP setup has been worth it, and I probably wouldn’t do it again.
So, I’ve always considered myself a bit of an unfulfilled audiophile. Have never had the free cash that I was willing to spend to get all the audiophile gear, but yet I can definitely tell (surprisingly so) that I pay more attention to how my music sounds than most people I know including family members.
My unpopular opinion is FLAC via Navidrome (transcoding disabled) –> Symphonium Client on my phone (with a good bit of time spent tweaking EQ/DSP settings to my liking) –> Buds2 Pro is probably somehow still inferior to what I’d be getting with an audiophile setup, but it’s honestly so breathtakingly lovely to listen to sometimes that it’s hard for me to imagine it getting that much better.
I’m aware there is room to go above that, but it already sounds so damn nice it’s hard for me to imagine it being worth much more effort or expense.
If anything, I haven’t used a set of good over ear headphones since decades ago, and I could see that being a big step up.
++ Navidrome but I’ve been in love with Symfonium as an android client for about a year. Every other android client I tried seemed like warmed over versions of each other with slightly different GUI and a slightly different set of bugs.
However, I somehow don’t think I ever tried Tempo (doesn’t ring a bell) so I’ll at least peek at it.
Maybe I’ve just been lucky. I did what some post suggested a couple weeks ago with regard to updating ublock filters and a couple other changes when this first ramped up, even though I’d not seen the popup about running an ad blocker yet.
Folks said that was a temp fix, and I should expect to have to mess with it again.
So far I’ve still not seen one of these youtube warnings about ads, not a single one.
We do have a pihole on the network, but for other reasons most of my systems are not pointed to it.
Give me one more reason to abandon my gmail account.
