  • The hard part of politics is drawing hard lines. But I think many would say it’s authoritarian at the point when a government is enforcing a specific ideology with force and violence, and limiting personal freedoms.

    I personally don’t understand how someone can be authoritarian and communist when communism is classless, but to be authoritarian there must essentially be an authority in a separate hierarchical class. But I also likely have more to learn so feel free to correct me

    Stupid easy to adapt the sign into a meme format if you wanted to

    I actually tracked the original photo down, and this picture was changed. The original text wasn’t “4 children for sale” it was actually “Hey lemmy users , lemmytors or whatever, lemmy is desperately in need for commenters. Can’t expect to compete against reddit comments. They have thousands of users and and a few of their comments are bound to become super popular just because there are so many of them. It feels like lemmy users are too shy because of reddit popularity. For instance in this case don’t tell me you didn’t wonder whether the photo was real or not and then got afraid to just ask.”

    So this is a meme

  • Hey, it’s ok. I was a younger conservative too until I left my parents house and met people outside of my small town and started thinking for myself.

    Then I realized all the talking points I had been fed were strawman arguments based on fear and designed to maintain control.

    But I like bowls so my judgment may be questionable /s

    My mom found porn on my computer in high school so my parents decided it would be a good idea to sit the whole family down and talk about what she found and what new restrictions the Internet would have for us all.

    Turns out that restrictions on porn for high schoolers don’t work and just make them more… creative. That was my first taste of learning about IT haha so maybe I should actually thank them.

    Thanks for providing the first somewhat reasonable argument that Apple could make in support of that design choice, other than cost cutting. What about USB 3.2 and 4? Also does USB 2 not produce any rfi?

    I looked into it further, and couldn’t get much info. It seems the USB organization is one of the main places for information on this potential issue, and their conclusion is;

    “Improving the shielding on the USB 3.0 receptacle connector can help reduce the amount of noise radiated due to USB 3.0 signaling. In addition, shielding of the USB 3.0 peripheral device plays an important role in reducing the amount of noise radiated in the 2.4–2.5 GHz range. This is particularly critical for peripheral devices that are placed close to the PC platform, such as a flash drive. Placement of the wireless antenna should also be carefully considered on a platform and be located as far away as possible from a USB 3.0 connector and/or device.”

    Which makes sense to me. And Apple, the most profitable tech company in the world, seems to be best equipped to figure out how to shield their devices components to minimize or eliminate that issue.

  • The reason there’s often backlash when a man says “not all men” is because its similar to saying “all lives matter” after someone says “Black lives matter”. It’s often said in a way that detracts from a conversation around women’s struggles.

    Also, from personal experience, if a women says something about men being the worst, or men are bad, it’s not because they hate all men. My wife says men are trash all the time, but she married one. She says that because she has been victimized by way too many men. Harassed by a multitude of guys. I’ve seen the messages she’s gotten, heard her stories, and just listened to her experiences as a woman. It’s honestly worse than you’d think if you’ve only lived as a man. And now I say men are trash too.

    And it’s NOT all individual men, but there is an underlying culture of toxic masculinity that exists. There’s healthy and positive masculinity too, but it’s not seen by some women. I’ve been told by several women that I’m “one of the good ones” just because I’m doing the bare minimum to be a good person. That’s not the norm, and I’m seeing that more and more in the people I’m around irl and online as well.

    So it sucks being grouped in with villainous men, I get it. It was something I struggled with at first. But I know that some women have to default to “all men suck” as a defense because of what they’ve been through. And it’s more beneficial for me to focus on being a good person and calling out shitty behavior, than arguing whether it’s all men or most men or some men if I want to help make a positive impact.
