I know I can block communities but can I block entire federations? I wanted to block foreign language ones which didn’t mark their posts with the correct language etc. so I wouldn’t see the content.

I’m not sure but it might work through DNS-filtering (with something like a pi-hole).

Tell your instance admin that you want them to hard-ban NSFW content, especially if it is not tagged.
I think that it is a valid and important stance to take.
There is a place for NSFW content, and that is on its own distinct fediverse network IMO. I’ll make an account on a NSFW instance and have whatever fun I want over there.
